COMPOSITES EUROPE: now annually in Stuttgart

Die COMPOSITES EUROPE, seit 2006 eine der erfolgreichsten Industriemessen in Europa, findet ab kommendem Jahr jährlich in Stuttgart statt. Bislang veranstaltet Reed Exhibitions die Europäische Fachmesse für Verbundwerkstoffe, Technologie und Anwendungen alternierend in Düsseldorf und Stuttgart. Mit dem Wechsel in einen jährlichen Turnus am Standort Stuttgart folgt die COMPOSITES EUROPE dem Wunsch der Aussteller und dem einstimmigen Votum des Fachbeirats.

Bislang veranstaltet Reed Exhibitions die Europäische Fachmesse für Verbundwerkstoffe, Technologie und Anwendungen alternierend in Düsseldorf und Stuttgart. Mit dem Wechsel in einen jährlichen Turnus am Standort Stuttgart folgt die COMPOSITES EUROPE dem Wunsch der Aussteller und dem einstimmigen Votum des Fachbeirats.

Ausschlaggebend sei die Nähe zu den Industriezweigen, in denen faserverstärkte Werkstoffe zum Einsatz kommen. Das gilt speziell für die Automobilbranche, den Fahrzeugbau, die Luft- und Raumfahrt sowie die Elektrobranche, wie Olaf Freier, Event Director der COMOPOSITES EUROPE, betont: „Die Region Stuttgart und Baden-Württemberg insgesamt sind Innovations¬treiber in vielen Anwendungsbranchen. Sie ist die größte und dynamischste Industrieregion in Deutschland und einer der wichtigsten Produktions- und Technologie¬standorte in Europa.“

Das unterstreicht auch Peter Egger in seiner Funktion als Beiratsvorsitzender der COMPOSITES EUROPE: „In Zukunft wird es darum gehen, mit modernsten Produktions- und Automatisierungs¬lösungen die Serienfertigung voranzutreiben, um weitere Markt-potentiale zu erschließen. Hier erwartet die Branche zusätzliche Impulse von der Standortentscheidung.“ Denn 25 Prozent der Maschinen- und Anlagenbauer haben ihren Sitz in Baden-Württemberg.

Breite Zustimmung für die Standortentscheidung kommt auch aus der Industrie und von den Partnern der COMPOSITES EUROPE.

Seit der Erstveranstaltung der COMPOSITES EUROPE 2006, damals mit 143 Ausstellern und etwas über 3.000 Fachbesuchern, hat sich die Messe zur Nummer 1 im wichtigsten europäischen Markt entwickelt und mehr als verdreifacht. Besonders dynamisch verlief die Entwicklung der COMPOSITES EUROPE in Stuttgart, wo zuletzt 470 Aussteller vertreten waren. In diesem Jahr zeigen in Düsseldorf über 350 Aussteller aus 27 Nationen den gesamten Produktions- und Fertigungsprozess von Faserverbundwerkstoffen. Damit spiegelt die COMPOSITES EUROPE die große Dynamik im Markt für innovative Leichtbautechnik in Europa wider, so Olaf Freier: „Mit insgesamt 48 nationalen und internationalen Verbänden und Industrieclustern, in denen weltweit 13.000 Unternehmen organisiert sind, bringt die COMPOSITES EUROPE bereits heute eines der international größten Netzwerke zusammen.

„Die Entscheidung „pro Stuttgart“ ist keine „Weg-von-Entscheidung“, macht unterdessen Hans-Joachim Erbel, CEO Reed Exhibitions Deutschland, deutlich: „Düsseldorf ist ein sehr guter Gastgeber und idealer Standort für die ALUMINIUM. Entscheidend dafür sei auch hier die Marktnähe. Denn Nordrhein-Westfalen ist sowohl bei der Produktion von Primär-aluminium wie auch bei der Fertigung von Halbzeugen das mit Abstand bedeutsamste Bundesland in Deutschland und Zentrum in Europa. Fast 60 Prozent des deutschen Branchenumsatzes werden zwischen Rhein und Weser erwirtschaftet.

Interview with Andreas Schulz, Marketing Director of CENIT AG – exhibitor at COMPOSITES EUROPE 2012

CE: Could you give us a quick overview of CENIT AG?
AS: CENIT AG has been a consulting and software specialist for optimizing business processes in product lifecycle management (PLM) and enterprise information management (EIM) since 1988. 700 employees world-wide achieved a turnover of 108 m EUR. Our main target market for PLM is the manufacturing industry, while EIM mostly addresses the financial services sector. CENIT’s strategic PLM partners are Dassault Systemes and SAP, for EIM we work with Alfresco, Adobe and IBM. CENIT is headquartered in Germany (Stuttgart) and we are present in all major cities across Germany. CENIT also has branch offices in the US, Switzerland, France, Romania and Japan.

CE: What kind of projects have you undertaken for clients?
AS: In the context of our partnership and our sponsoring activities for the racing team, which participate at FORMULA STUDENTS 2012 ,  we decided to focus on a very specific topic – developing the new monocoque frame for the race car, based on composite technology. At the end of the day we were successful and managed to reduce the total weight of the car from 260 to 240 kg.

CE: How did you come to be involved in the FORMULA STUDENT?
AS: We became involved in the Formula Student project about 12 months ago. Before that, we already had a long-term relationship with the West Saxony University of Zwickau (WHZ) in place, so we decided to become a main sponsor for the racing team alongside BMW.

CE: What challenges did you encounter in this project?
AS: For us as CENIT it wasn’t a challenge – the only challenge the team had was the time pressure to complete the car within a very short deadline.

CE: Looking to the future, where do you think the composites industry is headed?
AS: From our point of view, composite technology is becoming ever more important. The project with the WHZ Racing Team is a good example: composites allowed us to reduce the car’s weight and make it much more efficient from an economical point of view as well.

CE: What will you showcase at the COMPOSITES EUROPE 2012?
AS: As an output of our partnership with the WHZ Racing Team, we will focus on the monocoque project, and the FP612e racer will be presented at our booth. Visitors to the fair can also witness a demonstration of CENIT’s proprietary software toolbox FASTSUITE for offline programming of industrial robots. As value added reseller for the entire PLM portfolio of Dassault Systèmes, CENIT will also take advantage of the COMPOSITES EUROPE 2012 to showcase topics such as design with CATIA and analysis and simulation with SIMULIA.

CE: Finally, are you looking forward to the COMPOSITES EUROPE show?
AS: We are really looking forward to the event as a way to get in touch with existing customers and potential new clients. The fair is a fantastic platform for doing this.

Dear reader, sympathizer and friends,

an eventful year is drawing to its end.
We would like to thank you very much for reading our blogpost, visiting our show or telling us what is going wrong or fine.

The year 2009 has the sub-title “year of the crisis”. But we never gave up. We always tried to find a solution – pretty often a creative solution. Our shoulders were closed against the vortex downward.

What will be in 2010 ? – Outlook.

Few days ago we saw that the first plane with extra-easy carbon fibers for Engine tail, Thrust reversing housing etc. is able to fly – and will save 20% of fuel.

In Copenhagen the world discusses over reduction of Co2 – We need stronger energy sources apart from the atoms energy – wind mills with especially long reinforced carbon fibres wings will play a serious role.

My last point: The weight of the battery in electric vehicles must become balanced somehow to protect the positive effects.

Fiber reinforcements are able to change characteristics of plastics. With reinforced plastics designers are able to design more beautiful things and it makes our life lighter. Who would like me a contradicting, if I said that: We improve the world with Composites!

1COMPOSITES_EUROPE_2009_4_530Die COMPOSITES EUROPE bleibt auf Wachstumskurs. Das unterstreicht die diesjährige Veranstaltung, die erneut deutliche Zuwächsen verbuchte. Mit 15 Prozent mehr Ausstellern und einem Plus von gut 48 Prozent bei der Zahl der Fachbesucher setzte die COMPOSITES EUROPE ihren Erfolgskurs gegenüber der Vorveranstaltung in Stuttgart ungebremst fort. Insgesamt 313 Aussteller aus 24 Nationen und 6.120 Fachbesucher kamen zur vierten Auflage der europäischen Fachmesse für Verbundwerkstoffe, die vom 27. bis 29. Oktober in Stuttgart stattfand.

„Die COMPOSITES EUROPE erwies sich erneut als europaweiter Impulsgeber für die Composites-Industrie“, so Hans-Joachim Erbel, Geschäftsführer des Veranstalters, der Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, zum Abschluss der dreitägigen Messe. „In einer konjunkturell schwierigen Situation gehen von der COMPOSITES EUROPE, die ja auch als Innovationsbarometer verstanden werden kann, wichtige Impulse zur Belebung der Branche aus. Viele der präsentierten Innovationen sind serienreif oder stehen kurz vor der Markteinführung und werden dementsprechend in naher Zukunft neue Kunden finden“, so Volker Fritz, Präsident des europäischen Branchenverbandes EuCIA, dem Partner der Messe.

compos~1Mit 313 Ausstellern hat am Dienstag in Stuttgart die COMPOSITES EUROPE begonnen. Drei Tage lang zeigt die Fachmesse die neuesten Technologien und Produkte rund um die gesamte Wertschöpfungskette der faserverstärkten Kunststoffe.

COMPOSITES EUROPE ist die größte Messe im größten europäischen Markt für Verbundwerkstoffe. Mehr als 300 Aussteller präsentieren Innovationen und Neuheiten rund um die Herstellung, Verarbeitung und Anwendungen von innovativen Werkstoffen: u.a. Verbundwerkstoffe für Leichtbau in Automotive, Aerospace, Bau und Konstruktion. DYNA-MESS: New software for multi-axis, dynamic component testing

1Dnynamess_FahrradlenkerAt COMPOSITES EUROPE DYNA-MESS will present a new software programme for multi-axis, dynamic testing of composites. The new software combines phase control of exceptional accuracy with high ease of use. At the trade fair, DYNA-MESS will demonstrate the new DYNA-TCC (Test Control Center) software in a testing set-up with several servo-pneumatically actuated axes for dynamic tests of carbon fibre handlebars for bicycles.

Components subjected to complex loads and made of composite materials must be tested under realistic conditions. Handlebars of bicycles, for example, must withstand heavy, low-frequency loads during acceleration from rest and high-frequency loads on bumpy tracks. By no means must they break under extreme loads as, for example, during downhill runs or jumps. DYNA-MESS systems are ideally suited to realize such varying load situations.

CE_Composites_Forum_1_webTechnical principles, trends and innovations – in an international lecture forum, the COMPOSITES EUROPE trade fair will again present specialist lectures on current topics relevant to the industry in 2009. The COMPOSITES Forum will focus on all areas of composite applications. Topics range from crash-safe materials in the automotive field to sandwich panels in aircraft construction, from growth potential in the construction of wind energy parks to production and machining processes for composites. The programme features a total of 26 lectures and presentations in English and German.

From damage simulation to serial production
New technologies for the serial production of carbon-reinforced plastics (CRP) will be demonstrated by the IKV – Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung of RWTH Aachen. The IKV scientists developed three new process chains enabling the production of materials with a fibre content exceeding 50 percent in less than ten minutes.

The mechanical behaviour of CRP sandwich panels in practical tests is explained by the speakers from Fraunhofer IWM for CRP foam core sandwich panels. In its lecture, the Fraunhofer Entwicklungszentrum für Röntgentechnik (EZRT) presents non-invasive test procedures, from 3D computer tomography to radioscopy to thermography and ultrasonic techniques.

Dassault Systemes Simulia provides information on possibilities for FEM analysis of lightweight fibre composite structures. The use of the finite element method allows predictions on processes of damage and failure in supercritical load conditions.

The combination of highly elastic composites and aesthetically pleasing design is demonstrated by Huntsman and D3 who cooperated closely in designing a sophisticated carbon fibre chair moulded in four parts. Products from Huntsman’s Araldite series were used in the project. The two companies show how complex parts can be produced simply and cost-effectively using simple tooling technology.

The COMPOSITES Forum is located in Hall 4 and designed as an open lecture area. Admission is free for all trade fair visitors.

Dassault Systemes Simulia GmbH presenting itself for the first time at COMPOSITES EUROPE in Stuttgart this year

As a subsidiary of Dassault Systemes Simulia Corp. (Rhode Island, USA), Dassault Systemes Simulia GmbH is the contact for SIMULIA software products in Germany and Switzerland. Both in aircraft and in automotive construction, there is a clear trend towards the use of lightweight fibre composite structures.

Major reasons for this are rising fuel costs and stricter emission limits. Due to their favourable weight-specific properties, fibre composite structures offer considerable potential for cutting fuel consumption and emissions. In the process of developing composite fibre structures, the use of finite element (FEM) analyses in structural design is increasing. These “virtual“ FEM simulations can take the place of real tests to some extent, leading to savings in time and cost.

At COMPOSITES EUROPE, Dassault Systemes Simulia GmbH will present state-of-the-art solutions for FEM analysis of lightweight fibre composite structures at its stand (Hall 4 / Stand B13) and at the COMPOSITES Forum, using its Abaqus calculation software.
