Q: Please introduce yourself. What are your responsibilities within your company Holzner Maschinenbau GmbH?

A: My name is Michael Holzner, I’m the founder and CEO of the Holzner Maschinenbau GmbH and Carbonice(.net). As we are a young company my focus is on stable growth, also a reason why we have a booth on Composites Europe exhibition, to find new partners to pursue our innovative business.

Q: What’s in your opinion a strong advantage of composites in comparison to conventional materials?

A: The really fine thing about composites besides its mechanical properties is, that prototypes can be realized more cost efficient than in other styles, but offers many possibilities that can’t be realized with metal plates for example. In addition e.g carbon composites look impressive if they are clear coated – an eye catcher – what is in many cases important as prototypes should persuade customers, or should demonstrate the innovative power of a company.

Q: Could you give us a quick overview of your company Holzner Maschinenbau GmbH?

A: Holzner Maschinenbau is a young Startup that publishes innovative products in a framework of own brands in different fields. Our first brand is called Carbonice, herewith we develop, produce and distribute high quality bike components to the whole world, they are sold e.g. to Korea as well as Brazil.

As we cover the whole process from innovative ideas over development and testing, to the ready to sell product we have a widespread knowledge. Therefore we also work with customers in industries. Our references are, besides the bike industry, FESTO and AUDI as well as research facilities like the University of  Esslingen, which is around the corner to Stuttgart.

Q: Has your company always worked in the field of composites?

A: Yes, we are enthusiastic about new technologies and materials. Composites give us so many potentials, that’s the field where Holzner Maschinenbau GmbH will grow further.

Q: What kind of projects have you undertaken for clients?

A: We can realize small and very complex parts what we did for a customer in bike industry, e.g. a collar for fixing a brake lever at handlebars. That part was laminated at a long profile and is finished with our in house 4 axis milling machine, as it has to be machines from several sides. That part replaces an aluminum part what weight triple but costs nearly same. As the customer was a trade company, we covered the whole process including design and testing.

For another company in the area of Esslingen we produced a housing for a prototype machine in a vacuum infusion process. The nice thing about the vacuum infusions process is that the part size is nearly unlimited but the quality is high, so we can act very flexible.

We also did filament winding on prototype low pressure vessels, which were very lightweight, but incredible resistant.

Q: Finally, are you looking forward to the COMPOSITES EUROPE show?

A: Definitively I do, I’m sure to fine many important contacts there, as our service meets the need of many small and medium-sized businesses. The fair is located in the heart of Germanys mechanical engineering and automotive area, so nothing can go wrong.
