Q: Please introduce yourself. What are your responsibilities within your company Fillworth UK Ltd?

A: My name is Iain Fergusson, Sales Executive at Fillworth (UK) Ltd, responsible for sales and new business development of our range of Industrial Mixing Equipment. To the UK / European and global markets.

Q: Could you give us a quick overview of your company Fillworth UK Ltd?

A: Fillworth (UK) Ltd specializes in the design and manufacture of high performance, advanced technology industrial mixing machines and the associated processing technology.  We are positioned in the upper, quality segment of the market for this type of equipment, which is sold predominantly but not exclusively to the various branches of the composites and chemicals manufacturing industries.

We focus by tradition on some of the more demanding applications in adhesives, fillers and sealants, and this includes the processing of advanced composite raw materials. This latter places special demands on the technology and equipment used to achieve the desired end results.

Our USP is that as a specialist manufacturer we can adapt and customize our machines to individual customer requirements more so than is the case with some of our larger competitors.  Where this results in a machine that is more fit for purpose, the advantages in the long term are obvious.

Many of our machines are still in active service after 25 years, with only the occasional need of attention from our dedicated mobile service engineers.

Q: Has your company always worked in the field of composites?

A: The “composites” market had yet to be fully developed when our company was first founded, but our traditional involvement with the adhesives industries led naturally to Fillworth being associated with the early developments with customers in the composites markets.  As a result we have a considerable depth of experience in the technology required for the processing of composites in particular.

Q: What kind of projects have you undertaken for clients?

A: Fillworth’s machines are used as part of the supply chain in the construction of the wings in the aircraft industy.

Q: What other companies do you think are doing really good work in the composites industry?

A: We work closely with companies in Europe and the USA who supply composite based materials to the aviation, automotive and construction industries, and based on our experience without exception we have high regard for their capabilities.

Q: Looking to the future, where do you think the composites industry is headed? What are you looking forward to seeing?

A: It is obvious from the circle of participants at Composites 2015 that the aviation industry is only one of many that are using composites technology to create totally new materials that combine the advantages of individual formulations.  There is no reason to doubt that this will be a continuous evolutionary trend with a huge potential for the foreseeable future.

Q: Finally, are you looking forward to the COMPOSITES EUROPE show?

A: The prospects associated with the previous answer are indeed exciting.  We look forward with great enthusiasm to the opening day of Composites 2015 and the opportunities that this will present for us to meet and expand our contacts within all industries that are looking for partners to assist them develop this technology.
