This year, once again, the AVK conference is the opening event of the COMPOSITES EUROPE trade fair, which is an important market place for your business with participants from the every stage of the industry’s value chain from 27 – 29 September.
The presentation of the AVK Innovation Award and Composites Night frame the event and provide an opportunity for informal communication.

The International AVK Conference in the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart has a brand new concept.

In two series of lectures, prominent experts offer their insights into the many and diverse applications for fibre reinforced plastics. In order to reflect the needs of the different interest groups even more closely at the conference, the two series are divided into thematic blocks presented by executives and technology specialists respectively.

The speakers will focus on current developments and innovations in technologies, materials and new processes as well as on the general condition of the GRP and CRP market.
Some of the fascinating lectures include:

  • “Structural lightweight applications made from thermoplastic composites” by Joachim Graefe, Quadrant Plastic Composites AG
  • “Thermoplastic composites for the A350 XWB” by Dr. Klaus Edelmann, Airbus Operations GmbH.
  • Dr. Walter Aichholzer of Mercedes-Benz talks about the SMC decklid used in the premium automotive segment.

AVK represents the interests of all companies and institutions in the value chain involving components made of fibre-reinforced plastics and engineering thermosets

In a special lecture block “Research for practical application” professors from renowned universities and institutes report on trends, comparative studies of materials, series manufacturing applications and the wide range of design possibilities offered by fibre reinforced plastics.
The conference closes with a panel discussion titled “The future of fiber composites and plastics in the automotive sector” in which well-known participants from the automotive industry and its suppliers consider the current state of technology.

Composites giving the Airbus wings

Airbus is outstripping Boeing. At the world’s largest aviation trade show held recently at Le Bourget near to Paris, the competition between the two largest aircraft makers for the custom of the airlines dominated the news coverage. The Europeans attracted 730 orders (418 of which were binding) to a total value of roughly EUR 50 billion whereas the Americans “merely” posted 142 orders (58 of which binding) worth EUR 15 billion.

New Concept for AVK-conference 2011

Juni 3rd, 2011 | By Frank in aerospace, Aerospace Industry, Allgemein, Automotive Industry, Awards, Business, COMPOSITES Forum, General, Innovation | No Comments »

I just got information that in 2011 AVK-conference set up a new new concept.

Compressed into two lecture series high-level speakers inform about various applications of fiber reinforced plastics. Thematically, the two series be divided into decision-makers and technicians blocks. In this way the needs of stakeholders are met even more.

  • Structural lightweight applications of thermoplastic composites by Joachim Graefe, Quadrant Plastic Composites AG
  • Carbon-thermoplastic manufacturing for the A350 XWB – From Idea to Series Production by Dr. Klaus Edelmann, Airbus Operations Ltd.
  • SMC tailgate, which are used in automotive premium segment by Dr. Walter Aichholzer, Mercedes-Benz.

These are just some Topics for 2011 convention. As I am a big supporter of panel discussions I am looking forward to this: “Future prospects of fiber reinforced plastics in the automotive”.
Stuttgart is well known for Automotive so I guess there will be some interesting heads discussing this.

See you there!

Airbus flies with composites

April 14th, 2010 | By Frank in Aerospace Industry | 1 Comment »

When the new Airbus A350 XWB (XWB stands for eXtra Wide Body) takes off on its maiden flight in two years time, this will also represent a milestone for the composites industry. 50% of the fuselage of the wide-bodied aircraft, which is being developed as a competitor to the Boeing 787, is made of composite materials. Last summer, Airbus purchased Read Full Post

Frank Mertz - Sales Manager @ COMPOSITES EUROPE

Dear reader, sympathizer and friends,

an eventful year is drawing to its end.
We would like to thank you very much for reading our blogpost, visiting our show or telling us what is going wrong or fine.

The year 2009 has the sub-title “year of the crisis”. But we never gave up. We always tried to find a solution – pretty often a creative solution. Our shoulders were closed against the vortex downward.

What will be in 2010 ? – Outlook.

Few days ago we saw that the first plane with extra-easy carbon fibers for Engine tail, Thrust reversing housing etc. is able to fly – and will save 20% of fuel.

In Copenhagen the world discusses over reduction of Co2 – We need stronger energy sources apart from the atoms energy – wind mills with especially long reinforced carbon fibres wings will play a serious role.

My last point: The weight of the battery in electric vehicles must become balanced somehow to protect the positive effects.

Fiber reinforcements are able to change characteristics of plastics. With reinforced plastics designers are able to design more beautiful things and it makes our life lighter. Who would like me a contradicting, if I said that: We improve the world with Composites!

We wish you and your familiy happy holidays as well as a healthy, peaceful and successful new year 2010!

Best regards,

FAM
