Maximilian Hacker is 25 years old and the owner of BRComposites. He absolved his training as procedural mechanics of plastic and rubber technology, specialized in fibre composites.

CE: Please introduce yourself. Who are you and what is your responsibility at BRComposites?

MH: BRComposites has exists for two years now. We are a young and very innovative company with a continuous strong growth. Furthermore, we think that  well-trained employees and to the original rules of craftsmanship are very important.

I am proud to say that we are already training employees. In my opinion there is still a lack of skilled workers in the composites industry.

We develop and offer individual production to our customers. Productions up to 10,000 standard parts are easily possible. In this way the volume of production is growing. Our production is done without autoclaves and everything is hand-made.

CE: So how did you experience the COMPOSITES EUROPE 2011 show? What are your impressions?

MH: This is the first time for BRComposites as an exhibitor at the COMPOSITES EUROPE. Actually we have been planning the first exhibition in 2016. At least that has been the conclusion of a family dinner. However, by coincidental, I got a phone call from the COMPOSITES EUROPE team the next day. During this conversation I received information about a funding possibility through BMWi. Because of the funding possibility and the sponsoring by Jost Chemicals, which is a close partner, we decided to book a booth for the COMPOSITES EUROPE 2011.

Mr. Hacker was reacting spontaneously when we asked him about his feelings as participant of the CE 2011. He was euphorically describing the exhibition as gigantic. The company had a huge success, a great number of good meetings and contacts. The booth was constantly busy because so many visitors were interested in their products. In his opinion, the exhibition service and the whole organisation was very commendable.

We closed the interview by talking about the presentation of innovations brought by BRC.

BRComposites presented flexible carbon protectors which is already used e.g. by the v. The jacket (have a look at the picture) in the background is specially made for extreme mountainbikers and is equipped with flexible carbon protectors. All visitors have been wondering what kind of material this is. However, we could not get any detailed information.

Fantastic news for Composites Industry. VDMA “Composites Technology Forum” is now an institutional patron of COMPOSITES EUROPE. This helps to create the leading platform for serially produced composites parts. Composite Technology Forum counts on serial production

The VDMA (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau) is the largest engineering industry network in Europe. It represents 3000 mainly small- to medium-sized member companies in the engineering industry.
Accounting for sales of roughly € 173 billion in 2010, mechanical engineering is one of the largest industrial sectors and employers in Germany. Roughly two thirds of German production is exported.
VDMA has recently formed a Composite Technology Forum, a new network for machinery manufacturers engaged in the development and production of technologies for the manufacture and quality control of composite materials.

What are your thoughts about Composites and Automation?

I just got information that in 2011 AVK-conference set up a new new concept.

Compressed into two lecture series high-level speakers inform about various applications of fiber reinforced plastics. Thematically, the two series be divided into decision-makers and technicians blocks. In this way the needs of stakeholders are met even more.

• Structural lightweight applications of thermoplastic composites by Joachim Graefe, Quadrant Plastic Composites AG
• Carbon-thermoplastic manufacturing for the A350 XWB – From Idea to Series Production by Dr. Klaus Edelmann, Airbus Operations Ltd.
• SMC tailgate, which are used in automotive premium segment by Dr. Walter Aichholzer, Mercedes-Benz.

These are just some Topics for 2011 convention. As I am a big supporter of panel discussions I am looking forward to this: “Future prospects of fiber reinforced plastics in the automotive”.
Stuttgart is well known for Automotive so I guess there will be some interesting heads discussing this.

11 March this year saw the launch of the new international “Composites” Masters course, being held in English, at the Private University of Applied Sciences in Göttingen.  This means that now, for the first time in Europe, there is a course of studies aimed at resolving the international shortage of graduates in fibre-reinforced plastics. 21 engineers from Spain, France, the United Kingdom, India and Germany will now become experts in carbon composites during the three-semester course.

Dear reader, sympathizer and friends,

an eventful year is drawing to its end.
We would like to thank you very much for reading our blogpost, visiting our show or telling us what is going wrong or fine.

The year 2009 has the sub-title “year of the crisis”. But we never gave up. We always tried to find a solution – pretty often a creative solution. Our shoulders were closed against the vortex downward.

What will be in 2010 ? – Outlook.

Few days ago we saw that the first plane with extra-easy carbon fibers for Engine tail, Thrust reversing housing etc. is able to fly – and will save 20% of fuel.

In Copenhagen the world discusses over reduction of Co2 – We need stronger energy sources apart from the atoms energy – wind mills with especially long reinforced carbon fibres wings will play a serious role.

My last point: The weight of the battery in electric vehicles must become balanced somehow to protect the positive effects.

Fiber reinforcements are able to change characteristics of plastics. With reinforced plastics designers are able to design more beautiful things and it makes our life lighter. Who would like me a contradicting, if I said that: We improve the world with Composites!

Die COMPOSITES EUROPE bleibt auf Wachstumskurs. Das unterstreicht die diesjährige Veranstaltung, die erneut deutliche Zuwächsen verbuchte. Mit 15 Prozent mehr Ausstellern und einem Plus von gut 48 Prozent bei der Zahl der Fachbesucher setzte die COMPOSITES EUROPE ihren Erfolgskurs gegenüber der Vorveranstaltung in Stuttgart ungebremst fort. Insgesamt 313 Aussteller aus 24 Nationen und 6.120 Fachbesucher kamen zur vierten Auflage der europäischen Fachmesse für Verbundwerkstoffe, die vom 27. bis 29. Oktober in Stuttgart stattfand.

„Die COMPOSITES EUROPE erwies sich erneut als europaweiter Impulsgeber für die Composites-Industrie“, so Hans-Joachim Erbel, Geschäftsführer des Veranstalters, der Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, zum Abschluss der dreitägigen Messe. „In einer konjunkturell schwierigen Situation gehen von der COMPOSITES EUROPE, die ja auch als Innovationsbarometer verstanden werden kann, wichtige Impulse zur Belebung der Branche aus. Despite the increase in production capacities, the demand for carbon fibres continues to be far greater than the supply. This is evident from the annual market survey by the AVK – Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V. The worldwide capacity in 2007 is estimated to have been 55,000 tons. The applications are multifarious and consist primarily of the sports sector, wind energy, the oil industry, the automobile and transport sector as well as civil engineering. By 2010, an annual increase in the demand for CRP is predicted to be between 14 and 16 per cent. This is due to the development of new applications over and above the previous use. Current new developments can be found, e.g. with hydrogen tanks, although the main application continues to be aviation. Experts think that even though fibre production will experience a double-digit increase as expected, there will continue to be bottlenecks at least in the medium-term. Read Full Post

Within a short time, the COMPOSITES EUROPE specialist fair has developed into a significant growth factor in the composites industry and established itself as an industry institution. This year, from 27 to 29 October the specialist fair will present technologies and products covering the entire value creation chain of fibre-reinforced materials for the fourth time.

COMPOSITES EUROPE will showcase innovative solutions for major sectors of application, such as the automotive sector, the aerospace industry as well as the building and construction sector – tailor-made to fit the current requirements on material properties, such as lightweight construction, energy efficiency or improved corrosion resistance.

The start of COMPOSITES EUROPE will be marked by the International AVK Convention and the 2nd Biocomposites Congress. 350 international exhibitors are expected at COMPOSITES EUROPE 2009, among them key players of the industry such as Huntsman, AOC Resins and Exel Composites.
